Magic Turtle – Fine Art, Gems and Jewelry

It all started in the late 1980s, when we opened the shop Magic Turtle in the Greek Archipelago. It was not only a shop for fine art and handmade jewelry, but also a vibrant venue for artists and craftsmen from all over the world, a creative platform especially for ceramists and goldsmiths.

The Initial Exhibition

Part of Magic Turtle soon became a permanent exhibition, focusing on gemstones, minerals and their mysteries. This was all happening long before the time of the Internet. Information was difficult to access. Yet we continued to gather facts and data about gemstones, their physiology and geology. The information often came from rare sources, books and magazines. We also deepened our knowledge through private research trips and investigation.

One of our first and most important sources as an introduction to the mineral world was the book “Gemstones of the World“ by Walter Schumann. We highly  recommend this book, of course in its latest edition.  It is a goldmine for gemstone enthusiasts and an outstanding gateway to the world of gems.

Our exhibition soon became very popular. Year after year it grew larger and attracted more and more international visitors. Soon we also added the aspect of the healing and astrological properties of gemstones. Magic Turtle soon received worldwide attention and acclaim, which also led to it being mentioned several times in the mainstream media, as well as in magazines specialized in gems and jewelry.

The rebirth

This site is an attempt to digitally revive the old exhibition for gem enthusiasts – updated and enriched by modern means and with reliable facts from contemporary studies and research.

Above all, we hope – with the blessing of the internet  – that the exhibition will once more become a living platform for exciting encounters between like-minded admirers of the sparkling starry universe of gemstones.
