Carnelian is the birthstone of the zodiac sign Virgo. It is a variety of Chalcedony and, therefore, a quartz stone. Since antiquity, cultures have appreciated this beautiful stone.
In Ancient Egypt, they considered it the “stone of life” due to its color. Moreover, people used it in funeral rites. As evidence of this, there were many Carnelian gems found in Tutankhamun’s tomb.
The Chalcedony are usually translucent, fibrous varieties of quartz stone. The tones of Chalcedonies range from colorless to bluish-grey. Impurities, such as iron, lead to other shades – brown, yellow or reddish Carnelian, and result in the gem’s beautiful warm color.
